Acne is a common skin disease characterized by pimples on the face, chest, and back. It occurs when the pores of the skin become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. Over 17 million Americans have acne making it the most common skin condition in the United States. These areas are where sebaceous glands are mostly located. Sebaceous glands produce an oily substance called sebum. Small sebaceous glands lie just under the skin surface. These glands make the 'oil' (sebum) that keeps the skin supple and smooth. Tiny pores (holes) on the skin allow the sebum to come onto the skin surface.
Acne is a skin condition that occurs when the oil glands in your skin are clogged and become inflamed or infected. More than 90% of teenagers have some acne. While the precise cause of acne is unknown, it is clear how acne is formed. Most blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples are formed when a pore in the epidermis layer of the skin swells or collapses, preventing oil from moving naturally out of the pore. hen the oil is blocked, a small infection occurs.
The term "acne" simply refers to several pimples occurring together. Although it is not a serious health threat, severe acne can lead to disfiguring, permanent scarring. Common acne in teenagers starts with an increase in hormone production. During puberty, both boys and girls produce high levels of androgens, the male sex hormones that include testosterone. Testosterone signals the body to make more sebum, a waxy substance that helps the skin retain moisture. Acne usually includes mild to severe outbreaks of blackheads, pimples (zits) and cysts on the skin. Hormones associated with puberty are one trigger for teenage acne. reatments include managing stress and diet and using skin treatments.
The cause of acne can also be hormonal. The production of the hormone androgen surges during puberty, resulting in enlarged and overactive sebaceous glands. s these oil-producing glands respond to the hormonal changes occurring during adolescence, the skin is most prone to developing the pimples and blemishes that are the cause of acne.
Acne is a common problem which mostly affects teenagers but sometimes adults too. People try out different acne treatment methods to combat this problem and end up damaging their skin with harsh chemicals. The signs of acne are blocked pores caused by increased keratin and sebaceous gland secretions. These are seen as blackheads (open comedones) or whiteheads (closed comedones).
Acne pimples form when oil glands make too much sebum, an oily substance. Sebum is made in much larger amounts during and right after puberty than at other times in a woman's life. Sebum then blocks pores to form whiteheads, which form under the skin, and blackheads, which are open to the air. It occurs most often during puberty and is worse for boys.
Acne Rosacea appears similar to acne vulgaris, and the two can be easily confused. Rosacea appears as a rash, usually on the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin, which can be accompanied by pimples and other skin blemishes. osacea may also cause blood vessels to become more visible.
